Dreama celebrates Garangao in traditional atmosphere
Garangao night is one of the most important popular Ramadan customs in the State of Qatar. It is on the night of the middle of the holy month of Ramadan. Garangao night is a popular tradition and an ancient legacy that is passed down from generation to generation. This night is awaited by young and old. In this regard, the Orphan Care Center (Dreama), in cooperation with Qatar Insurance Group, held a special ceremony on Garangao night this Ramadan as part of its Ramadan activities and within the framework of its continuous endeavor to consolidate customs associated with Qatar’s authentic heritage.
This event aims to have Dreama children participate in celebrating this annual occasion to bring joy and happiness to their souls and allow them to experience the traditional customs and traditions associated with Garangao night.
The ceremony program included a welcoming speech to the attendees, in addition to presenting a show containing ancient traditional songs as well as popular games, which aim to preserve national identity and popular heritage, besides introducing the names of some traditional games, which are an integral part of memory and cultural heritage.
The event took the form of corners of varied activities, some of which are: the Arab hospitality corner where various popular dishes were introduced to visitors. These dishes reflect the unique character and cultural diversity in Qatar. Another corner was for drawing and henna, in addition to the photography corner where pictures were taken of the children in beautiful traditional clothing. On the other hand, gifts and bags of sweets and nuts were distributed to the children. This event is part of the main events that Dreama seeks to ingrain in the hearts of future generations and enhance interaction with the local community.
Sheikha Najla bint Ahmed Al Thani, Executive Director of Dreama Orphan Care Center, stressed the importance of t Dreama children’s participation in reviving social activities of a heritage nature, which contributes to introducing the children to the identity of their society, interacting with it and integrating them into it. In fact, Dreama is introducing children to cultural legacies with view to developing their social life and educational skills, which in turn will achieve their integration into society.
