The State of Qatar celebrates National Day to commemorate the founding of the State of Qatar by the founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, on December 18, 1878 AD. This day is celebrated on December 18 of every year. It was decided to consider this day an official holiday, and celebrations are held in various parts of the country, perhaps the most prominent event being Darb Al-Saai. The parade of the people of Qatar is also celebrated, and the sons of Dreama participate in these celebrations as an expression of loyalty and belonging to the dear homeland of Qatar. Various performances are also presented on the Corniche.
